USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ESPECIALLY YOUNG GENERATION IN PAKISTAN

Mobile phones has replaced land line telephones no doubt at one part it has facilitated life in various ways but at other hand we can see the demerits more. First we have to look in data of Pakistan According to New zoo’s Global Mobile Market report updated June 2021 when Pakistan’ Population was 235.82 million Pakistan was 10th number in using smart phone where 72.99 million people used smart phone which stood 31%. According to Data reportal at the start of January 2023 87.35 Million people in Pakistan used internet According to Digital Pakistan data 2021 in January 61.34 Million people in Pakistan used internet Which increased by 4 million between January 2021 to January 2022 which is 36.5% of total population. According to Express Tribune 30 July 2021 internet users in Pakistan stands 54% while 66% live in Urban while 47% in Rural. On 13th July 2023 the Express Tribune 72.9 Million Pakistani use social Media with annual growth rate of 4.3% from 2021 to 2022. According to Pakistan Observer 6th June 2023 83 million People use internet and out of them 72 million use Social Media but unfortunately in Pakistan Social Media users are under age (Below 18 Years) while 60% of them live in urban and 40% in rural areas. The issue which I want to address is not the use of internet as today’s world is digital where in every step whether education ,Business including sell & Purchase even advertisement of business is by digital and it has saved the time of people but in Pakistan it is reverse. By ranking the smart phone usage it is as follows. a. Communication b. Connectivity c. Entertainment d. Education Means which should be priority is in last According to an assessment of Department of Sociology Quaid Azam University Islamabad the youth is using internet for academic purpose only for 5 To 30 Minutes / day while on average 4 to 6 hours /day on entertainment While in world it is reverse where 4 to 6 Hours are used for study purpose and 5 to 30 minutes for entertainment means it is reverse in Pakistan. According to Mobile operating System Market Share Pakistan the use of smart phone age wise is a. 9% between age 10 to 20 years b. 77% between age 21 to 30 years c. 12% between 31 to 40 years d. 1% above 40 years Means more active people is youth using smart phone but not for study, business ,content writing, article writing and other ways to earn revenue from country or from abroad but according to Digital Pakistan 82.90 million are using social media . According to Info graphics 15th July 2014 in Pakistan most used application is FB website which increased from 72% in July 2022 to 80.9% in June 2023. According to Express Tribune 30th July 2021 from 54% internet users 90% use U Tube just for searching Music, watching Videos and 38% from them use U tube website foe searching and purchasing online. The second most is What sap website. The question here is misuse of this social media which is evident from daily news in electronic & Print Media. The blessings granted us as human being by almighty Allah are not for showing to public as for publicity but we must use with paying thanks to Allah not for making other poor people who can not afford and feel not only inferiority complex as to visit on Hajj & Umrah people used to post on FB without thinking what other white color or poor will feel as for example a peon or a Naib Qasid,a Junior Clerk performs Umrah every year with family it is big question from where money comes naturally it is from illegal means and the WORSHIP is purely between Allah & his creature ,more strange is how at holy place people get time to take selfies and post on social media where every second is so much prestigious that one should concentrate in Worship. A 16 grade Mukhtiarkar with his family visits Northern areas every year and post the pics on different places while an honest officer of 20 grade can not do this ok if they go for spending time is it necessary to publicize on social media to make other people frustrated. When people visit outside for ,entertainment any where whether a restaurant or other places first they post on social media then after reaching their visiting places post pictures while enjoying expensive meals etc just to show that how much they can afford (Whether they are earning from illegal means) which leads to frustration to the people & their children belonging to same class and due to this some people indulge in criminal activities or take bribe . When our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Peace be upon him that if you eat some thing like fruits or other either give to your neighbors if you cannot do not throw their peels outside in a way that your neighbors feel sad then why we have forgotten all these teachings. Do share your achievements and happiness but with your well wisher just not on social media ,Use these websites for positive purpose as academic ,business other online earnings not for only entertainment. We daily observe scams from social media and how young girls are trapped and then black mailed who either commit suicide or are murdered recently a Drama is on Air “Mere Ban Jao” on Hum Television in girl is trapped by her own fiancée and then black mailed which is a great lesson.. Another drama on ARY “ANABIA” . The story of Dua Zehra is not so old where how she was trapped through this social media it is a lesson for all of us. It is time to use youth who use internet only for entertainment and are Dull Users instead using it for productivity and has become liability. No doubt Government on various times has introduced IT Programs in which even monthly payment was done to them but as usual it did not benefit the young generation as there was no accountability and the money was used as usual as in other government projects. We need to bring social & Behavioral change in community and also create cheap places like parks for games so that our children should use their time in recreational activities .
