Gender Equality (Sustainable Development Goal 5)
zero Hunger according to SDGSS can be achieved by Gender Equality where all Men, Women, Children,Boys & girls should enjoy their basic right to have adequate food but according the WFP globally the women are exposed to food insecurity 8.4% higher than five years ago.
Here we focus on Pakistan which is more effected due to multiple reasons including floods,Climate Changes .Until and unless we will not give Empowerment to women which nearly account 50% of population how we can address gender Equality.
According to Global Gender Index Report 2022 Pakistan ranks at 145 no out of 156 countries in terms of Women Ecoconomic Participation & Opportunity and for Education attainment at 135 while for Women Health Care Survival at 143 No (An eye opening Statics).
Pakistan has lowest Level of Gender partiipation in South Asia State.Only 8% of Micro_Small & Medium Sized enterprises are owned by women.
According to Economic Survey 15 November 2022 the Female literacy rate is 48& while comparing to male which is 70% & 22.5 Million children do not attend any school in which majority are girls(GENDER INEQUALITY). By Grade 9 (14 to 15 year age) only 13 % are enrolled.
in 2023 Economic Survey has pointed an increase in both Female Literacy to 51% and Male to 72.5%. while this differs in Urban & Rural areas as 64% population is Rural & 36% Urban.
In Pakistan according to Express Tribune 37% house hold are facing Food Insecurity from which 27.8% are women of reproductive age and it is more worse in Rural than Urban areas.Further the Minimum dietary Diversity is more in Rural Women with less Education & Income.Further the Women are not allowed to participte even in their own health care decision which is only 51% while 44% are allowed to decide about house hold purchase .then how they can have acess to their own necessities.
As we are more concerned about Gender equality Pakistan ranks 129 no out of 165 countries on SDGS in 2021 on SDGS and exhibited dismal performance.
We can boost our economy( GDP) by 60% by 2025 if female labor force becoome equal to male labor but unfortunately it is not cosidered as for same work female are paid 10% to 30% less than male, along with one report from Islamabad Based Alliance against sexual Harassement about 93% women are harrassed in both Public & Private sectors (For which either they leave job or are forced to leave). There are also other factors including social ,Relegious & Cultural..
women Education is key factor towards all issues as we can observe that an educated women with employment can take better decision for the health and nutrition of her children as not only she is aware but more conscious about health of family & children in this way we can reduce Malnutrition and stunting in children which is more prevalant in Pakistan. .In our culture birth of Girl child is considered a burden and every priority and facility is given to male child including education food even Milk is not provided to girls it is spared for male child in rural areas.Parents just wait that when her daughter will attain puberty so that they can throw burden by marrying her .
The government not only passing bills should take some practical steps instesd of giving 2000 to each women of BISP or giving free flour to families why we can not motivate or establish skill building institutes (In Real Sense) or small factories where we can produce productive communities instead of beggars. How many days these 2000 or 30 KG flour will satisfy the families for which they spend days to collect.
We collectively can bring change by FGD ,Interpersonnal Communication where ever one can get opportunity.
We can learn lesson from Bangladesh where in recent past years women Empowerementhas increased to 35% along with increased Literacy rate & Life Expectancy though there are majority of Muslims.
Great
